Calacatta Bluette is quarried from a gallery quarry just outside of Carrara, Italy. The quarry is located near the top of one of the peaks on the Apuan Mountain Range. Blocks of Calacatta Bluette are cut from within the mountain. Once removed, the opening inside the mountain is called a “gallery.” In the winter, the entire quarry is closed as the steep mountain road is covered with ice and snow. This marble will have a light blue and cream background tone, with grey and black veining. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern. Finally, a mesh backing is adhered to the back of the stone to ensure safety while handling and fabricating the slab. As a natural stone product it is recommended that it be sealed to extend its longevity.
